I'd greatly appreciate help with the acronyms on this board.
For example, what does LOL mean? Where I buy Channel #5 it means "little old lady" as in Channel is a lol fragrance. But I know it has another meaning here.
Help!

(1) Have you recognized yourself before Jehovah God as a sinner who needs salvation, and have you acknowledged to him that this salvation proceeds from him, the Father, through his Son Jesus Christ?
(2) On the basis of this faith in God and in his provision for salvation, have you dedicated yourself unreservedly to God to do his will henceforth as he reveals it to you through Jesus Christ and through the Bible under the enlightening power of the holy spirit?
Baptismal questions from the May 15, 1970 Watchtower, p. 309:
(1) Have you recognized yourself as a sinner and needing salvation from Jehovah God? And have you acknowledged that this salvation proceeds from him and through his ransomer, Christ Jesus?
(2) On the basis of this faith in God and in his provision for redemption have you dedicated yourself unreservedly to Jehovah God, to do his will henceforth as that will is revealed to you through Christ Jesus and through God's Word as his holy spirit makes it plain?
Baptismal questions from the May 1, 1973 Watchtower, p. 280:
(1) Have you repented of your sins and turned around, recognizing yourself before Jehovah God as a condemned sinner who needs salvation, and have you acknowledged to him that this salvation proceeds from him, the Father, through his Son Jesus Christ?
(2) On the basis of this faith in God and in his provision for salvation, have you dedicated yourself unreservedly to God to do his will henceforth as he reveals it to you through Jesus Christ and through the Bible under the enlightening power of the holy spirit?
The newest baptismal questions, from the June 1, 1985 Watchtower:
On the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, have you repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to Jehovah to do his will?
Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in association with God's spirit-directed organization?

They call it a verbal declaration - it is in reality a verbal contract with them. They have you recite this VERBAL CONTRACT in front of thousands of observers the day of your baptism.
Dutchie, your information has been very HELPFUL, thank you. I'm going to e-mail this attorney that I know that practices law in the state that I was baptised in & I'll post the info, once I have it.

Hi evyerone,
Thanks for the info. I'd like to clarify that I am not sueing anyone. Yup, I haven't been a minor for a looong time.
Regarding the catholic baptism, the babies can't speak therefore they aren't required to answer publicly to the two questions that are asked during a JW baptism at assemblies. There are differences between JW & Catholic Baptisms just as there are similarities.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, I've read that legal contracts can be written or verbally. The WTS has people verbally recite their contract with them. (Please look at the two new baptismal questions that took into effect in 1985-especially question #2.)
The baptism itself is simbolic & religious but if I'm understanding correctly the contract with the JW's is the verbal declaration, in front of an audience, to the two questions.
Now if as a minor, a child made this verbal declaration without realizing the implications and realizes that he/she was fooled regarding ALL of the implications, as an adult is the person bound to it?
It shouldn't matter if the person is an adult now, the fact is that as a minor the child did not understand & didn't know he/she was reciting a verbal contract with the WTS & not God/Jehovah.
Also, I'm a pretty new member to the board therefore I had no idea that this question gets asked often. I'll look for the old questions on this topic. I only ask for patience with us new people on the board. We ask questions to get your assistance, opinions, help, support or redirection.
Please don't be like the JW's and start getting upset at us for asking questions. Thank you so much for all of your time & assitance. It is greatly aprreciated!

Thank you for your comments.
I was baptised also at 15 and I have stopped attending the meetings for over a month now.
I spoke to a relative about my concerns regarding the child molestation cases. (My little sister was abused; her father was only disfellowshiped) He, and elder, said "You have only known ONE case"
Well, this ONE case happens to be my sister. My uncle advised me to go SPEAK with the elders regarding my doubts about the WTS. (yeah right -like they are really going to 'listen' to my concerns.)
I know that they will be at my door anytime now.000
Any info will greatly help me.
Thanks,

Hi everyone,
Are minors legally bound to the WTS baptismal contract? (The two questions that we answer at the assembly before getting baptised)
The following website says no. Is this true? Has anyone spoken to an elder or the WTS about this trying to break their contract?
I'd appreciate any information.
I just found this information at a website. Does anyone know if this true?
"Note that the above legalese says that once a person joins the Witnesses, he has only two choices if he wants to leave: disfellowshipping and disassociation.
These two choices are enforced by American law. However, even if the Watchtower lawyer has correctly stated matters, he has neglected the case of the child who gets baptized and submits to "ecclesiastical law.;
By law minors cannot enter into legally binding contracts. Therefore by law, people who got baptized when they were children have a third legally enforceable option when they leave:
to simply quit, without disassociating and without submitting to a judicial committee, or ;ecclesiastical tribunal.; Of course, the Society will not tell people about this."

okay here is the situation in a nutshell: i am being offered a job with the former vice president of my current place of employment.. here is the details:.
i got hired at an ipo in late april.
it was the ceo, 2 vice presidents and me.
Hey Dan,
I believe in taking risks in life. If I was offered a job with a 'new' company paying at least 6,000 more per year, I would seriously look into it. I would also request the job description, salary (plus pay step raises)in writing and benefits.
For me $2k a year does not make a difference. If you're single, then you will pay about $500 in taxes. You'll maybe have a little bit over a $100 increase in you NET pay.
I also can't believe such a low salary. As a secretary I made $35,000 a year without a degree. Now I will graduate with a double major and continue to go on to medical school. Since I have earned 35,000 I will not take a job that pays under that.
Food for thought,
Capuccino OC (aka Oveja Callada)
PS
I sent everyone e-mails who responded to a demonstration at the WTS & yours came back as doesn't exist.
who are these men?
who the hell put them in charge of six million people?
i know, i know, it was the holy spirit that put them there.. this is a corporation for chrissake!
Yeah, who owns the stock for the WTS?
How can we look into this?
i agree with erica's comment below: .
"i am not an apostate, i have never spoken out against god and i never will, which is what the bible says an apostate is.
we all know that the wts is not god.
Hi Everyone!
I agree with Erica's comment below:
"I AM NOT AN APOSTATE, I have never spoken out against God and I never will, which is what the bible says an apostate is."
We all know that the WTS is not GOD. Therefore anyone who has spoken against the WTS hasn't spoken out against God.
My aunt who has been a JW since 1978 tried to convince me that the WTS is ran by "imperfect men" who SOMETIMES make mistakes and that we should be loving & forgiving. Her train of thought made me more upset.
I guess she's forgotten how her niece, my sister was abused by her father, my stepfather and how the rules of the WTS have caused GREAT emotional problems,(just to name one) on my little sister.
My uncle who is an elder tried to tell me that it was the elders' fault who told us we couldn't go to the authorities and not the WTS. Yet he forgets that he was an elder at the time in the congregation and he didn't report it to the authorities because he believed "Jehovah would take care of it within time".
Yes the elder was following the instructions from the WTS. He told us don't bring reproach against Jehovah's name or his congregation.
My uncle was also following the instructions from the WTS.
What is holding him now from reporting NOW that his niece a minor at the time of the raping and elder's committe was a MINOR?
We all know that if he GOES public, he would loose his elder position. He would be then classified by the WTS as an 'apostate' for revealing his niece's abuse.
In addition he asked me, "Haven't you heard of CONFIDENTIALITY? I said, yes. Then he went to explain how he as an elder is under confidentiality.
If I'm understanding all of their "excuses" then:
1. Anyone in the JW's can break the law. As long as they don't have "Two" witnesses and they deny it they will be in good Standing in the congregation.
2. If you are a child molester, all you have to do is deny it & you're of the hook.
3. As long as you agree with the WTS & the congregations' elders you'll always be in good standing.
4. YOur conscience won't bother you (that's what my uncle told me about his) for not reporting because he is under "confidentiality."
So WHAT in the world are they preaching????
LOVE one another by not reporting child abusers to the authoritie??
I do believe the WTS is reaping what they have sowed for many YEARS!
i can't find the words that would express how grateful i am for all the support, not only for all of you to back me on the dateline show but for my trial as well.
i don't think i would have had the courage to go through the trauma if it wasn't for all your prayers and encouragement.
dateline was a huge help for many and i know this because i have recieved quite a few calls, one from a current jdub who wants out for the safety of his 16 month old baby, i was so excited that he lifted the veil and saw it for the pure truth that it was.
Erica,
Congratulations with your baby boy!
Me hubiera gustado que mi hermana tuviera el mismo valor que tu para hablar publicamente de lo que le paso. Favor despues de comunicarte conmigo cuando tengas algo de tiempo.
Don't worry about the cross. My friends & I didn't even notice it. We were busy listening to the content of the information.
What hit it home was having had the exact experience in my family. Yet, my lil' sister hasn't been brave enough to speak the the authorities. Her father, my stepfather, was only DF.
